DIY Leather and Wood Shelf

Lately I've been in the mood for redecorating, cleaning and reorganizing. I wanted a shelf in our bedroom that I could make myself to hold some new artwork and candles. A quick search on Pinterest for DIY wood shelves turned up this beautiful blog post for hanging leather strap shelves. I made some modifications to fit what I wanted and loved the way it turned out. The best part is it was so easy and only took me 15 minutes to assemble.

I recently picked up this print of North American trees from local artist Erin Vaughan. She does the loveliest illustrations of National parks and plant varieties.

I also decorated the shelf with a vintage glass bottle and our Nordic Spruce candle. The shelf is really sturdy and feels like it could handle a lot more weight if needed.

You can easily modify this shelf with different colors, lengths and thicknesses of both the leather and wood. Here is the list of supplies I used:

Natural Leather (72" x 1 1/2") cut in half

Precut pine board (5.5 inches wide)

Gold screw hooks

Leather puncher
